Madi Diaz, born May 14, 1986 in Greenwich, Connecticut, is an American singer-songwriter. Raised in Lancaster, Pennslvania, by her Peruvian mother Nancy and Danish father Eric, a woodworker and musician who played keyboards in the Frank Zappa tribute band Project/Object. Encouraged by her parents, Diaz began piano lessons at age five and later switched to guitar in her early teens. She was featured in the 2005 documentary Rock School as Madi Diaz-Svalgard. Diaz attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston. Her music career started with the self-released album Skin and Bone (2007), recorded during her time at Berklee College of Music where she collaborated with guitarist Kyle Ryan. After dropping out of Berklee, Diaz moved to Nashville and released several EPs including Ten Gun Salute (2008) and Far from the Things That We Know (2011). Her full-length album Plastic Moon was released in January 2012, followed by We Threw Our Hearts in the Fire later that year, Phantom in 2014, and History of a Feeling in 2021. The latter, her debut on ANTI- Records, received critical acclaim for its raw emotional depth and introspective songwriting. n early 2023, Diaz joined Harry Styles's band, playing guitar and providing backup vocals for the European leg of his Love On Tour. She also supported Kacey Musgraves on the UK and European legs of the Deeper Well World Tour in 2024. In 2024, she released Weird Faith, which earned two Grammy nominations and featured collaborations with Kacey Musgraves and Lori McKenna. In October 2025 was released Fatal Optimist, co-produced with Gabe Wax at his Infinite Family studio in California.
