Biography

Luis Demetrio Traconis Molina was born on April 21, 1931, in Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico. He was a singer and composer who began playing a harmonica at age three and composed his first song at 12. In 1950, Molina recorded “Yo No Sé Qué Siento Aquí” with the Avileño trio. By 1954, he joined Pérez Prado's orchestra and later collaborated with Ninon Mondéjar’s Latin Cuban orchestra. His international hit “Sway”, co-written with Pablo Beltrán Ruiz and Norman Gimbel, was covered by Dean Martin (1954) and Bobby Rydell (1960). Molina won awards including the Musa de Radiolandia (1964) for Best Composer of the Year and the Trébol de Oro (1965) for Best Sales. He died on December 17, 2007, in Cuernavaca, Morelos. His composition “La Puerta” reached Number 1 in 1991 when recorded by Luis Miguel.
