Lowertown is an American indie rock duo from Atlanta, Georgia, formed in 2018 by Olivia Osby on vocals and guitar and Avsha Weinberg as a multi-instrumentalist. The two met as high school classmates and began writing together from a lo-fi, bedroom-pop starting point, releasing the self-produced album Friends in 2019 before signing with Dirty Hit. Their first label EP, Honeycomb, Bedbug, arrived in 2020, followed by The Gaping Mouth in 2021, a more angular and experimental project shaped by Osbyâs narrative lyrics and Weinbergâs intricate guitar-led arrangements. Lowertown released their Dirty Hit debut album, I Love to Lie, in 2022, led by âBucktoothâ and also featuring âMy Friends,â âAntibiotics,â âNo Way,â and âScum.â Around this period, the duo toured with acts including Wet Leg, Porches, and beabadoobee. After leaving Dirty Hit, Lowertown self-released the 2023 EP Skin of My Teeth, with âBline,â âRoot Canal,â âObscurity,â and âMarionetteâ marking a reset for the project. In 2024, they issued âBline (They Are Gutting a Body of Water Remix),â then moved into a new phase with Summer Shade. In 2026, Lowertown returned with Ugly Duckling Union, a concept album built around a fictional duckling character and expanded through comics, fan-community material, and visual world-building, previewed by âI Like You a Lot,â âBig Thumb,â and âWorst Friend.â
