Biography

Mitsuki Francis Laycock‑Miyawaki, born 27 September 1990 in Mie Prefecture, Japan, is a Japanese‑American singer‑songwriter who began her musical education while studying composition at Purchase College. She self‑released Lush (2012) and Retired from Sad, New Career in Business (2013) as student projects before releasing Bury Me at Makeout Creek (2014) on Double Double Whammy, a raw, guitar‑driven debut that earned critical attention. After signing with Dead Oceans in 2015, she issued Puberty 2 (2016), Be the Cowboy (2018), and Laurel Hell (2022), the latter reaching the top ten in several countries and producing the Billboard‑charting single "My Love Mine All Mine". In 2023, she released The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We, with singles "Bug Like an Angel" and "Star"; the album spawned a concert film and a live album in 2025. Her eighth studio album, Nothing’s About to Happen to Me, was released on 27 February 2026. Mitsuki has collaborated with Son Lux on "This Is a Life" for the 2022 film Everything Everywhere All at Once, earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song, and has performed on tours across North America and Europe, solidifying her presence in contemporary indie rock.
