Biography
Lo-Tel, an Australian pop-rock band from Sydney, formed in 1998 with Luke Hanigan on vocals and guitar, Dave Lumsdaine on bass, and Darren Brollo on drums. The trio began recording tracks in Hanigan's home studio, leading to their first live performances. In 1999, they signed with Epic Records and released their debut single "Genre Casting" early the following year. Their breakthrough came with the release of "Teenager of the Year" in May 2000, which became a Number 40 hit after appearing in the Australian film Looking for Alibrandi. The band's debut album, Planet Of The Stereos, was released in October 2000 and achieved moderate commercial success. Marty Hailey joined the band mid-2000 on second guitar, keyboards, and backing vocals. Two further singles from the album, "A Pop Song Saved My Life" and "Crucifix", received significant airplay but were less successful. In 2001, Hanigan married Australian actor Pia Miranda. After a hiatus, Lo-Tel regrouped in 2002 with Paul Wheeler replacing Brollo on drums and released their second album, The Lost Thing, in August 2003. The album's track "Angel" received widespread commercial airplay, but the album itself failed to make the Top 100. Lo-Tel disbanded later that year.
