Lloyd Cole and the Commotions were a British rock band formed in Glasgow, Scotland in 1982. The group consisted of Lloyd Cole on lead vocals and guitar, Blair Cowan on keyboards, Lawrence Donegan on bass guitar, Neil Clark on guitar, and Stephen Irvine on drums. During their active years from 1984 to 1989, the band achieved significant success with four Top 20 albums and five Top 40 singles in the UK. Their debut single "Perfect Skin" reached number 26 on the UK Singles Chart in spring 1984, followed by their first studio album Rattlesnakes, which peaked at number 13 in the UK and was certified gold. The band's follow-up album Easy Pieces (1985) entered the UK Albums Chart at number 5 and was also certified gold. Notable singles from this period include "Brand New Friend" and "Lost Weekend", both of which reached the UK Top 20. Their third studio album, Mainstream (1987), peaked at number 9 in the UK but contained only one UK top 40 single, "Jennifer She Said". The band disbanded in 1989 and released a compilation album titled 1984â1989. After their breakup, Lloyd Cole pursued a solo career with notable releases such as his eponymous debut studio album in 1990. In the following decades, the group reunited for a series of one-off live performances in 2004 and 2009.
