Biography
Originally the solo project of keyboardist Charles de Boisseguin, L'Impératrice has evolved into an electro-pop band with strong disco influences. Formed in Paris in 2012, the band grew with musicians Hagni Won (keyboards), David Gaugué (bass), Achille Trocellier (guitar) and Tom Daveau (drums), before the recruitment in 2015 of singer Flore Benguigui. After debuting on Cracki Records with a homonymous debut EP in 2012, L'Impératrice signed with independent label Microqlima and produced the Sonate Pacifique (2014), Odyssée (2015) and Séquences (2017) EPs, before unveiling her debut album Matahari (2018), produced by Renaud Letang and featuring collaborations with Isaac Delusion and disco arranger Eumir Deodato. With remixes by Parcels, Yuksek, Red Axes, Onra, Pomrad, Poolside, Montmartre and Lazywax, and the participation of rapper Lomepal on "Là -haut", the group announces the release of its second album Tako Tsubo (2021) with a series of new tracks. Having gained international recognition since their performance at the Coachella festival, L'Impératrice opted for English-language songs such as "Everything Eventually Ends" (with Rejjie Snow) in 2022 and "Earthquake" in 2023, followed by "Me Da Igual", the first single from their third album Pulsar (2024), performed in French despite its Hispanic title. This overtly nu-disco album also includes "Danza Marilú" with Fabiana Martone, "Any Way" with Maggie Rogers and "Sweet & Sublime" with Erick the Architect.
