Biography

Leroy Smart, born in 1952 in Kingston, Jamaica, is a Jamaican musician known for his contributions to reggae and world music. Orphaned at two years old, he attended the Alpha Boys Catholic School where he learned singing, drumming, and dancing. His first single, "It Pains Me", was released in 1969, followed by "Shame & Pride" in 1970. Smart's breakthrough came with "Mother Liza" in 1973, leading to a prolific collaboration with producer Bunny Lee. He began producing his own music in 1978 and has since released over 35 albums, including Dread Hot In Africa (1977) and Mr. Smart in Dub (2005). Smart's work has been reissued multiple times, highlighting his enduring influence.
