Carlene Davis, born circa 1953 in Clarendon Parish, Jamaica, is a singer known for her contributions to reggae and gospel music. At age fourteen, she moved to England with her parents and began performing professionally the following year. She initially gained fame as a reggae artist, recording her version of "Leaving on a Jet Plane" in Toronto and achieving local success with a cover of Jimmy Cliff's "The Harder They Come". In 1980, Davis returned to Jamaica and performed at the Reggae Sunsplash festival in 1981. She released several albums throughout the 1980s and early 1990s, including Taking Control (1987), Reggae Songbird (1990), and No Bias (1991). In 1996, Davis was diagnosed with breast cancer, which led her to focus on gospel music. She released the album Vessel in 1998 and achieved significant success with the single "This Island Needs Jesus" in several Caribbean countries.
