Biography

Lee Jeong‑seon, born 30 October 1950 in Daegu, South Korea, is a singer, guitarist, composer, arranger and university professor. After serving in the Army Band, he debuted in February 1973 at the YWCA auditorium. His 1974 album was the first Korean record where he wrote, composed, arranged, performed and recorded all tracks. Lee released albums such as Island Boy (1974), and Thirties (1985), and founded the folk‑rock trio Lee Jeong-seon and the Balloons (1979) and the blues‑rock band Shinchon Blues (1986‑1997). He collaborated with artists like Lee Ju-ho and Kim Young-mi, and taught guitar through his Lee Jeong-seon Guitar Class series starting in 1985. Lee received the Korean Music Award (2008), the First Korean Popular Music Contribution Award (2004), and the President’s Citation for Cultural Achievement (2016). His album of best songs, Lee Jeong-seon Best, was released in 1991 and entered Bugs' Top 100 Folk/Acoustic albums chart at rank 61 in March 2026.
