Laurie London, born on January 19, 1944, in London, was a British singer who gained fame as a child star in the late 1950s and early 1960s. He began playing the guitar at an early age and made his debut as a singer during a BBC Music Show called 6. Special, which led to his first recording session at Abbey Road Studios under producer Norman Newell.
Laurie London's breakthrough came with the release of his debut single "Heâs Got The Whole World In His Hands" in September 1957. Despite initial plans to promote "The Cradle Rock" as the A-side, "Heâs Got The Whole World In His Hands" became a global hit, reaching number 2 on the Billboard chart in April 1958 and earning a gold record in the USA. In Germany, the song peaked at number 5. Following this success, Laurie London released several albums including England's 14-Year Old Singing Sensation (1958) and He's Got The Whole World In His Hands (EP - 1958). He also collaborated with Danish singer Gitte on the duet "Pretty Eyed Baby" in 1959. Laurie London's career saw further success with his German-language single "Bum-Ladda-Bum-Bum," which reached number 10 in the German charts in December 1959. Despite his early success, Laurie London's music career waned by the early 1960s. He retired from the entertainment industry in 1962 and later worked for a real estate company and managed a hotel in Sussex until 2000.
