Biography
Lani Misalucha was born August 3, 1972 in the Philippines. As her parents were both opera singers, music was a central part of her life from an early age. By the end of her teenage years she was already gigging professionally, and she performed with numerous groups and provided back-up vocals for many recording projects including commercials. She released her debut album, 1996âs More Than I Should, to great acclaim, quickly becoming one of the most respected singers in the Philippines. Her albums consisted of primarily pop love songs with the occasional cover of American songs such as âYou Donât Have to Say You Love Meâ. She continued to win awards at various song contests, and then mounted her first big concert in 2001. A live album from that event features covers of disco classics like âI Will Surviveâ and âItâs Raining Menâ as well as a pair of songs made famous by fellow diva Whitney Huston, âGreatest Love of Allâ and âI Will Always Love Youâ. She toured the United States, and in 2004 became the first Asian performer to have a residency at a Las Vegas casino. She did residencies at several different Las Vegas establishments, garnering the nickname âNew Siren of the Stripâ. She enjoyed a triumphant homecoming with a sold-out show in the Philippines in 2007. A pair of live records, and a Christmas album came next. She moved back to her home county in 2014 and recorded The Nightingale Returns.
