Lacy Gibson, an American Chicago blues guitarist, singer, and songwriter, was born on May 1, 1936, in Salisbury, North Carolina. He learned to play guitar from his mother and moved to Chicago in 1949. Lacy Gibson's career began as a session musician, playing rhythm guitar for artists like Willie Mabon and Billy "The Kid" Emerson. In 1963, he recorded "My Love Is Real" with Chess Records, featuring Buddy Guy on guitar; the track was initially unreleased and later credited to Guy. Lacy Gibson's debut album, Wishing Ring, was released in 1971 by El Saturn Records, which was co-owned by his brother-in-law, Sun Ra. He collaborated with notable figures such as Son Seals and Willie James Lyons, and his album Switchy Titchy was released in 1982 by Black Magic Records. Lacy Gibson continued to perform around Chicago until health issues constrained his appearances. He died of a heart attack on April 11, 2011, aged 74.
