Biography

Fatima-Zahra Hafdi, better known by her stage name La Zarra, is a Canadian singer-songwriter with Moroccan roots. Born on August 25, 1987, in Montreal, Quebec, she spent her formative years alternating between Montreal and Longueuil. Her journey to musical prominence began in earnest in 2016, following the release of her debut single, "Printemps blanc." This piece, crafted in collaboration with French rapper Niro, marked the beginning of La Zarra's ascent in the music industry. Her breakthrough arrived in 2021 with the hit single "Tu t'en iras," which found a home on radio and television airwaves alike. Certified platinum by the Syndicat National de l'Édition Phonographique (SNEP), the single peaked at Number 75 on the French charts and solidified La Zarra's place in the musical landscape. That same year, she was nominated for the Francophone Revelation of the Year at the esteemed NRJ Music Awards, an honor buoyed by the success of her debut album, 2021's Traîtrise. Due to her ever-growing popularity, France Télévisions selected La Zarra in 2023 to represent France in the Eurovision Song Contest. She was the second Canadian singer to earn this honor, following in the footsteps of Natasha St-Pier in 2001. Performing the song "Évidemment," La Zarra finished in 16th place out of twenty-six countries. The track was later released as a single, reaching Number 95 in Ireland, Number 82 in France, and Number 94 in the UK.
