Biography
Koreana, originally known as the Arirang Singers, is a South Korean band that formed in 1962 and gained international fame with their 1979 debut album, DisCorea, released under the Polydor label. The album featured the hit single "Dark Eyes," which propelled the band into the spotlight. Following their initial success, Koreana released several more albums, including Burning Fantasy in 1980 and Highlights (Too Much Love) in 1983. They are best known for their iconic song "Hand In Hand," the official theme of the 1988 Seoul Summer Olympics, which was sung in both Korean and English and became a significant hit, alongside their single "Living For Love." Throughout their career, Koreana showcased a unique blend of pop and rock influences, characterized by their harmonious vocals and energetic performances. The classic lineup featured Cathy Lee Oea-Sook, Marie Hong Hwa-Ja, Tom Lee Seung-Kyu, and Jerry Lee Yong-Gyu, the latter of whom passed away in early 2021. Over the years, Koreana has contributed to various music festivals and events.
