King Apparatus was a Canadian third-wave ska band formed in 1987 in London, Ontario. The group's lineup included vocalist Chris Murray and guitarist Sam Tallo, among others. Their debut EP, Loud Party, released in 1989 on Raw Energy Records, marked the labelâs first release. The band gained significant traction with their self-titled album King Apparatus in 1990, which sold over 5,000 copies and secured a national distribution deal with A&M Records. Their breakthrough single "Made for TV" reached Number 1 on CFNY-FM and the national campus radio charts in 1991, with its video featuring a sign language interpreter. The band won two CASBY Awards for Best Reggae/Ska Group in 1991 and 1992. Following the disappointing sales of their second album Marbles (1993), King Apparatus disbanded in 1994 due to heavy touring schedules and label changes, with members pursuing various musical endeavors afterward.
