Biography

Kim Doo Soo, born on August 4, 1959, in Daegu, South Korea, is celebrated as one of Korean acid folk singers. His work delves into themes of political oppression, personal struggle, and isolation, often portraying tales of hardship, including experiences with alcoholism, societal turmoil, and a decade of reclusive living in the mountains. Active since the 1980s, Kim released his debut album, A Long Way (*시오리길), in 1986 under the Korean label Seorabul Record. His unique style, marked by melancholic and reflective lyrics, drew international recognition when his music appeared on the 2006 compilation International Sad Hits, curated by Damon & Naomi. Following this exposure, Kim's influence expanded beyond Korea, with releases on Japan’s PSF Records and the UK's Blackest Rainbow, helping establish his place in the global folk scene. His music resonates with listeners seeking depth and emotional authenticity, blending traditional Korean folk elements with a raw, introspective edge. In 2023, Kim continued to explore new themes and sounds, releasing the album 류목:Driftwood.
