Biography
KardeÅ Türküler is a Turkish folk music and dance collective formed by students of BoÄaziçi University in Istanbul, Turkey. Launched in 1993, the group made its live debut later that year at a concert sponsored by the BoÄaziçi University Folklore Club, where they performed a multi-cultural mix of Turkish, Greek, Kurdish, Azerbaijani, Gypsy, and Armenian songs. The show was a hit, and the group continued performing local concerts before releasing a self-titled debut album, KardeÅ Türküler, in 1997. The sophomore album DoÄu followed in 1999, with Vizontele arriving in 2001 and Hemâvâz appearing one year later. In 2004, the group wrote and recorded the soundtrack to the Turkish film Vizontele Tuuba, which was released as the sequel to 2000's Vizontele. KardeÅ Türküler remained active on the road and in the recording studio well into the 21st century, releasing albums like Bahar (2005), Ãocuk (H)aklı (2011), and Yol (2017) along the way. They also appeared on several charts in Turkey, including the Top 200 Shazam chart, where they reached number 73 in April 2024 with the single "Zemar (AÄıt)."
