Mehmet Ruhi Su, born in 1912 in Van, Turkey, was a Turkish opera singer, folk singer, and saz player. He began his musical journey at age twelve by learning to play the violin. After studying at the Ankara Conservatory from 1936 to 1942, Su started his career as an opera singer, performing in works such as Madama Butterfly and Fidelio. During his classical music training, he also began to explore Turkish folk music. He founded the Dostlar Korosu choir in 1975, which accompanied him on many of his performances. In 1977, he released El Kapıları, a collaborative album with Sümeyra Ãakır. Su's notable songs include "Mahsus Mahal" and "Acem Kızı". Su died on September 20, 1985, in Istanbul.
