Biography

José Meneses Scott, known professionally as José Menese, was born in 1942 in La Puebla de Cazalla, Spain. He started his career as a flamenco singer, performing locally before his breakthrough in 1959 when Antonio Mairena presented him at the Cine Carretería in Osuna. José Menese released his debut album José Menese in 1963 and gained recognition for his powerful voice and orthodox style. He performed at prestigious venues such as the Théâtre de l'Olympia in Paris and the Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid. José Menese received numerous awards, including the Premio Ondas in 1968 and 1996. His later albums include El viento solano (1993), A mi madre Remedios (1997), and La pureza del cante (2002). José Menese passed away in 2016.
