Johnny Boy was an indie pop duo formed in 2002 in Liverpool, England, comprising Lorraine Hayward and Andrew Davitt, both credited with vocals, loops, and guitars. Their first single, "Johnny Boy Theme", released in 2003, featured a voiceâover from Martin Scorseseâs film Mean Streets, from which the group derived its name. In 2004, the single "You Are the Generation That Bought More Shoes And You Get What You Deserve" was produced by James Dean Bradfield of the Manic Street Preachers and entered the UK Singles Chart at number 50 in August 2004. The same year, Bradfield coâproduced the duoâs debut album, Johnny Boy, released in 2006, which received mixed reviews. The groupâs sound was described as a blend of church bells, boyâgirl vocals, loops, and edgy guitars, drawing comparisons to the Clash and Phil Spector. The group remained active until 2006, after which no further releases were issued.
