Biography

Johana Rodríguez is a tropical/cumbia singer born in Chancay, Peru, who built her career in Argentina after moving to Greater Buenos Aires as a young mother. After singing in local groups, she connected with Argentine musician Gastón Villalba and co-led the romantic-cumbia project Viru Kumbieron, a duo-centered act that broke nationally in 2018 when they recorded live versions of “No Te Creas Tan Importante” and “Me Vas a Extrañar” with Damas Gratis’ Pablo Lescano, turning those songs into defining hits of the late-2010s tropical scene and placing Johana Rodríguez on major Argentine TV and weekend dance circuits. While Viru Kumbieron’s catalog kept expanding, Johana Rodríguez also began releasing music under her own name, starting with singles such as “La Mejor Versión de Mi” (2019) and “Basta” (2019), then continuing with “Si Me Dejas Ahora” (2020). In 2021 she added “Por Que Te Fuiste” and appeared on “Contigo” with Edwin Luna y La Trakalosa de Monterrey, followed by session-style releases and medleys in 2022–2023. Subsequent releases include collaborations on Huguito Flores el Super’s “ESAS LÁGRIMAS” (2024) plus her own singles “Si Esta Casa Hablara” (2024), “Voló La Paloma” (2025), and “Amor Se Escribe Con Llanto (Live Session)” (2025).
