Formed in Melo, Cerro Largo, in 2014, The La Planta is a Uruguayan cumbia project led by singer and songwriter Nicolás Choca, who shaped the act from its early band format into a studio-driven outfit that revolves around his vocals, writing and direction; in recent years the core creative team has frequently included Uruguayan producer Pushi (Santiago RodrÃguez). Early releases built a regional following, and by 2021 the project was surfacing on the Latin blogosphere with the single âUna Vela.â A run of singles consolidated the soundâamong them âFaranduleraâ (2021) and âDiscotekaâ with Locura Mix (2023)âbefore a breakout year in 2024 brought collaborations that positioned The La Planta beyond Uruguay, including âMil Preguntasâ with Luana in March, the cumbia update of âHoyâ with Valentino Merlo in May, and the high-profile âAlas de Papelâ with De La Ghetto and Locura Mix in August. Live visibility rose in parallel, with the act announced as an opener for Aventura and a football-anthem team-up with Los Fatales on âUruguayo Hasta Las Venas.â In 2025 The La Planta issued âLunaâ with Malandro in June and then collected its session hits and new cuts on the 20-track debut album La Casa de la Cumbia Vol. 1 in September, a set that features the âMix Cumbiaâ series and originals such as âSi Esta Casa Hablaraâ; further singles across the year included âLamentablemente,â âPuño de Diamantes,â and âEn Otra Vida.â
