Joseph T. Pernice, born July 17, 1967 in Boston, Massachusetts, is an American indie rock musician and writer. He formed the Scud Mountain Boys in 1992, releasing three albums before disbanding in 1997: Pine Box, Dance The Night Away and Massachusetts. After the break-up, he founded the Pernice Brothers, debuting with Overcome by Happiness in 1998 on Sub Pop. The band released several notable albums including The World Won't End (2001), Yours, Mine & Ours (2003) and Discover a Lovelier You (2005). In 2006, Joe Pernice appeared as himself in an episode of the television show Gilmore Girls. He also released solo albums such as Big Tobacco (2000), Richard (2020). and Could It Be Magic (2020). Joe Pernice entered another active stretch with the Pernice Brothers album Who Will You Believe in 2024. In 2026 he opened a new solo chapter with Sunny, I Was Wrong, an album featuring guests including Aimee Mann, Norman Blake, Rodney Crowell, and Jimmy Webb, extending a career that has moved fluidly between bandleader, solo writer, collaborator, and author.
