Biography
Jimmie Dodd was an American singer-songwriter and actor who was born as James Wesley Dodd in Cincinnati, Ohio, U.S., in 1910. He achieved early professional recognition in 1940 as a singer in the film Varsity Vanities and is famous for being the master of ceremonies for the television series The Mickey Mouse Club and for writing the show's theme song "The Mickey Mouse Club March". Dodd moved to California to pursue a career in songwriting and authored approximately 400 tracks, including "Nashville Blues" and "Rosemary". During his tenure on The Mickey Mouse Club, he performed self-composed songs with positive messages for children and played a custom "Mouse-guitar". His discography includes writing the track "Lonely Guitar" (1959), which became a Billboard Top 50 hit for the fellow performer Annette Funicello. As a film actor, he appeared in productions including Those Were the Days! (1940), Flying Tigers (1942), and Easter Parade (1948). Dodd died in 1964.
