Jigmastas, an American hip hop group from Brooklyn, New York, was formed in 1996 by DJ Spinna and MC Kriminul. The duo's first recording debut came with their appearance on Rude Rydims' "Everybody Bounce" in 1995. Their breakthrough moment occurred the following year when they released their single "Beyond Real", which became an underground rap hit and inspired the name of their self-funded record label, Beyond Real Recordings. In 2000, Jigmastas released their debut LP album Grass Roots: Lyrical Fluctuation. The group's highly anticipated second album, Infectious, was released in May 2001 and featured collaborations with Vernon Reid, the former guitarist of Living Colour, and rapper Sadat X. In 2002, they released the single "So What".
