Jia Peng Fang, born on April 6, 1958 in Jiamusi, China, is a composer known for his work in New Age and world music. At age eight, Jia began learning to play the erhu under the influence of his older brother. By sixteen, he moved to Beijing to study with experienced players. In 1978, Jia joined the Central National Orchestra as an erhu player. His international breakthrough came with his debut album River, released in 1999 on Pacific Moon Records, which blended Western and Chinese musical elements. The album included "Silent Moon", used as background music in a tribute video to martial arts master Yip Man. Jia's subsequent albums, including Rainbow (1999) and Faraway... (2001), further solidified his success both domestically and internationally.
