Biography

Nawang Khechog, born in 1954 in eastern Tibet, is a Tibetan flute player and composer. A self-taught musician, he emigrated to Australia in 1986, where he first performed and his recordings achieved bestseller status. His collaborations with the Japanese musician Kitaro on the Grammy-nominated albums Enchanted Evening and Mandala brought him international recognition. He performed live with notable artists including Philip Glass, Paul Winter, Laurie Anderson, and Paul Simon. Notable performances included the Tibetan Freedom Concerts in New York in 1997, Washington DC in 1998, and Tokyo in 1999. He released the albums Karuna in 1995, Sounds of Peace in 1996, and Tibetan Meditation Music in 2007. In 2007, he received a special award at the Tibetan Music Awards for Tibetan Meditation Music.
