Jesse Crawford, born on December 2, 1895, in Woodland, California, was an American pianist and organist. Orphaned young, he learned music autonomously in an orphanage, starting with the cornet and later playing piano in dance bands and silent film theaters.
He played at prominent venues such as the Chicago Theatre and Grauman's Million Dollar Theatre. In the 1930s, he shifted to the Hammond organ, touring extensively and composing works like "Vienna Violins" and "Louisiana Nocturn". Crawford authored instructional manuals for organists and released albums including When The Organ Played At Twilight (1942) and My Song of Love (1953). His final recordings were made on the Simonton Wurlitzer organ. Crawford passed away in Los Angeles on May 28, 1962.
