Biography
Intocable (Spanish for "Untouchable") is an American Tejano and Norteño music band formed by friends Ricky Javier Muñoz and René Orlando MartÃnez in Zapata, Texas, in 1993. With roots in world folk, the band managed to blend Mexican sounds with Western pop ballads to create their own, unique style. Throughout their career, Intocable have achieved many number 1 singles including "Robarte un Beso," "PrometÃ," and "Te Amo (Para Siempre)". In 1999, tragedy brought the band's name into the headlines when Jose Ãngel Farias and Silvestre RodrÃguez, along with the band's tour manager José Ãngel González, were killed in a car accident after their van swerved off the road. Just six months later, the remaining members of the band got themselves back out on tour and released the single "El Amigo Que Se Fue" as a tribute to the fallen band members. In 2005, they won a Grammy Award for their album Ãntimamente in the category Best Mexican/Mexican-American Album and again in 2011 for Classic. That same year, they became the first band of their genre to be asked to play during the halftime show at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium in a game against the Washington Redskins. In 2015, Intocable decided to stream a live concert to their fans, with all the proceeds being donated to St. Jude Hospital in Fullerton, California. Over the following years, the group won a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Latin Billboard Awards and continued to honor their Mexican heritage with albums such as En Peligro de Extinción (2013), Highway (2016), Percepción (2019), and Texican (2020). In 2024, the song "Ojalá Estuvieras AquÃ," one of the singles from their 2024 24th album Modus Operandi, peaked at number 36 on the Regional Mexican Airplay chart in the US.
