Biography
Jose Roberto Pulido Jr. (April 25, 1971), better known as Bobby Pulido, is an American singer-songwriter and actor from Edinburg, Texas. Along with Selena, he is credited with popularizing Tejano music in the United States. The son of award-winning Tejano legend Roberto Pulido, he took his first steps in music by joining his fatherâs band as a saxophonist and backup vocalist. His solo debut Desvelado was released in 1996 by EMI Latin and rapidly became a smash hit among Mexican American teenagers, obtaining platinum certification by the RIAA after selling over 100,000 copies. Follow-up album Enséñame also came out in 1996 and entered the Top 10 on Billboardâs Top Latin Albums chart. His big breakthrough, however, arrived in 1997 with a third full-length titled Llegaste a Mi Vida, which earned Bobby Pulido five awards at the 1998 Tejano Music Awards, including Male Vocalist of the Year, Male Entertainer of the Year, Tejano Crossover Song of the Year, and Tejano Album of the Year. Pulidoâs decline in popularity during the 2000s coincided with the beginning of his acting career, which started on the 2003 telenovela La Década Furiosa. Subsequently, the Tejano artist returned with the albums Enfermo de Amor (2007), DÃas de Ayer (2010), Lo Mio (2012), and Hoy (2016). In 2021, Bobby Pulido featured on cumbia group Los Socios del Ritmoâs âOtra Como Tú,â an Eros Ramazzotti cover that peaked at number 29 on the Mexico Popular Airplay chart. Over the following years, Bobby Pulido refreshed his catalog with the single âLlórameâ in early 2021 and the EP Para Que Baile Mi Pueblo in 2022, whose title track helped him win the Latin Grammy Award for Best Tejano Album that year. In 2023 he continued releasing new material, including the norteño remake âLa Soledadâ with MC Davo, LP Norteño and Mónica Saldivar, along with singles such as âNada De Nadaâ and âHoy Rompo El Silencio,â while maintaining a steady live schedule across the U.S. and Mexico. In late 2024 he announced his retirement from music and unveiled the 2025 farewell Por La Puerta Grande Tour, and in 2025 he issued the live project Bobby Pulido & Friends Una Tuya Y Una MÃa (Vol. 1 / En Vivo) and its expanded edition â¦Por La Puerta Grande (En Vivo), which revisited hits like âDesvelado,â âCumbia Vallenataâ and â¿A Dónde Van Los Muertos?â with guest artists and earned him a second Latin Grammy for Best Tejano Album as well as a Grammy nomination for Best Mexican Music Album. By the end of 2025 he was winding down the farewell tour and formally shifting his focus toward a run for the U.S. Congress, closing out this phase of his career with a high-profile series of live releases and awards.
