Biography
Los Palominos are a Tejano group from Uvalde, Texas. The group was formed in 1986 by four brothers: Johnny, James, Jesse, and Jorge Arreola. They were originally known as Los Tremendos Pequeños, and began their career with a traditional conjunto sound, heavily influenced by their father, a veteran musician. Their music spans genres like polkas, rancheras, boleros, ballads, and cumbias. In 1992, the group signed with major label Sony Discos, leading to their breakthrough with the 1994 album Corazón de Cristal. The album was a commercial success, earning gold status, and the title track became a hit across the United States and Mexico. Their 1999 studio full-length, Por Eso Te Amo, marked a high point in their career, spending seven weeks atop the world music charts and winning a Grammy for Best Tejano Album. Tragedy struck in 2001 when Jesse Arreola was killed in a tour bus accident, but the group continued, releasing several successful albums, including Obsesión (2001) and Un Poco Más (2002). In 2003, the group released the album Canciones de la Rockola, which contained the track "Ni Por Mil Puñados de Oro." This became one of the band's signature songs, a hit across several regions. They continued releasing albums such as Rockola 2 (2009), Strait Tejano (2014), Piénsalo (2016), Con la Fuerza de un Huracán (2019), and El Orgullo de Uvalde (2023). Throughout their career, the group has received numerous awards, including a Latin Grammy for Evoluciones in 2006.
