Biography

Jane Richmond Hyslop, known professionally as Jane Child, was born on February 15, 1967, in Toronto, Canada. She is a singer, songwriter, and record producer who began her musical journey at an early age, classically trained as a pianist by her parents and performing with the Canadian Opera Company's children’s chorus. In 1989, she released her self-titled debut album Jane Child, which she wrote, produced, and performed entirely herself, except for the guitar parts. The album included the hit single "Don't Wanna Fall in Love", which peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1990 and reached number six on the R&B chart. Her previous single, "Welcome to the Real World", was a modest hit, peaking at number 49 on the Billboard Hot 100. In 1993, she released her second album Here Not There, which blended R&B with rock and grunge elements but did not achieve commercial success. She kept a low profile for much of the decade before releasing her third album Surge in 2002 on her own label Sugarwave. She also contributed vocals to cover songs for the Just Dance video game franchise, including Just Dance 2016 and Just Dance 2017.
