Biography
C & C Music Factory was formed in New York City in 1989 by songwriters and producers Robert Clivillés and David Cole who contracted performers for their recordings. These included rapper Freedom Williams and singers Zelma Davis and Martha Wash. They had huge international success right away and were named Best New Artist at the 1991 Grammy Awards.
Their debut album 'Gonna Make You Sweat' went to number two on the Billboard 200 and number eight on the Official UK Albums Chart. The title track 'Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now' topped Billboard's Hot 100 and reached number three on the UK Singles Chart. 'Here We Go' went to number three on the Hot 100 and number 20 on the UK Singles Chart and 'Things That Make You Go Hmmmm' peaked at number four on both charts.
They released two more albums, 'Anything Goes!' (1994) and 'C+C Music Factory' (1996) but they did not achieve similar popularity. Clivillés, Williams, Davis and Wash went on to solo careers and, sadly, Cole died of spinal meningitis in 1995. Their 1994 track 'Robi Rob's Boriqua Anthem' appears on the 2016 album 'Best of Latino 9'.
