Biography
Deborah Ann Gibson, known professionally as Debbie Gibson, was born on 31 August 1970 in Brooklyn, New York. She began performing at a young age, learning to play the ukulele and piano by eight years old. At 16, she signed her first record deal with Atlantic Records after pitching demos to industry professionals. Her debut album, Out of the Blue, released in 1987, earned three platinum certifications from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and featured five top-five singles on Billboard charts, including "Foolish Beat", which placed her in the Guinness Book World of Records as the youngest female ever to write, produce, and perform a number one single (âFoolish Beatâ). Her second album, Electric Youth, released in 1989, topped the Billboard 200 for five weeks and included the number one single "Lost in Your Eyes". She was recognised by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) as songwriter of the year in 1989. Throughout the 1990s, she released several albums, including Anything Is Possible (1990), and Body Mind Soul (1993). She also ventured into acting, appearing in Broadway productions such as Grease and Chicago. In the 2000s, she founded her own record label, EspÃritu Records. She went on to add to her discography with albums such as the pop-minded The Body Remembers in 2021 and a remix album of "Love Don't Care" in 2023.
