Biography
Show-Ya, a Japanese female heavy metal band, was formed in 1981 by Keiko Terada and Miki Nakamura. The group initially played together for a year before entering the East West Grand Prix musical contest organized by Yamaha. After changing their name from Medusa to Show-Ya, they won the contest for best female group, securing a record contract with Toshiba EMI. Their debut studio album Masquerade Show was released in 1985, followed by Queendom in 1986. The band's fourth studio album, 1987's Trade Last, marked their collaboration with Yasushi Akimoto, known for his work with the Japanese idol group Onyanko Club. In 1987, producer Andy Johns mixed their albums Immigration (1987) and Glamour (1988) in Los Angeles, significantly influencing their sound. Show-Ya's album Outerlimits, released in 1989, reached number 3 on the Japanese chart and sold over 600,000 copies, featuring the hit single "éçLovers". Their subsequent album, Hard Way (1990), was produced by Beau Hill. Despite their popularity in Japan, Show-Ya struggled to achieve significant commercial success in the USA. In 1998, the band disbanded but reformed with the original lineup in 2005 for their 20th-anniversary celebrations. Subsequent releases from the group's post-reunion era include Genuine Diamond (2012), Progress (2015), Aurora (2017), and Showdown (2021). In October 2025, they released the album Mugen.
