Biography

Jake Xerxes Fussell, born on November 9, 1981 in Columbus, Georgia, is an American singer known for his work in folk and blues music. Raised by folklorist Fred C. Fussell, he began playing with elder musicians in the Chattahoochee Valley as a teenager. In 2015, he released his self-titled debut album Jake Xerxes Fussell featuring adapted folk and blues songs produced by William Tyler. His second album, What in the Natural World, was released in 2017 and received critical acclaim from outlets like The New Yorker. Fussell's third album, Out of Sight, followed in January 2019. In 2022, he released Good and Green Again. His fifth album, When I'm Called, was released on July 12, 2024. In 2025, he teamed up with James Elkington to compose the soundtrack for the film Rebuilding.
