Jackie Chan â born Chan Kong-sang in Victoria Peak, Hong Kong on April 7, 1954 â is an actor, martial artist, filmmaker, stunt director, and singer. Since the 1960s, he has made more than 150 films and remains one of the most successful action film stars in history. Known for his comedic persona and performing all of his own stunts, Jackie Chanâs career started in Asia in the early 1960s and by the early 1980s, he began a slow crossover into the American market, appearing in minor roles in several films. In the Asian market, his series of Police Story films in the 1980s and 1990s were enormously successful, bringing worldwide attention to his unique style of martial arts/action films. He achieved success in the U.S. in the 1990s when he co-starred in Rush Hour (1998) and became a household name in America. During Jackie Chanâs worldwide ascent to movie stardom, he also had a successful recording career in Hong Kong and Asia. Since 1984, he performed the theme song to many of his motion pictures, releasing a dozen studio albums â sung in Mandarin, Cantonese, Taiwanese, Japanese, and English â and issuing 10 compilation releases. He also released two different official Olympics albums in 2008. Jackie Chanâs first recording - "Kung Fu Fighting Man" (Theme from The Young Master) â was released in 1980. Some of his other hits include âStory of a Heroâ (Theme from Police Story), âWe Are Readyâ (2007), and âWu Shi Ren Feiâ (2018).
