Biography

Born in Malmö, Sweden, Iris Bergcrantz is an acclaimed jazz vocalist. She is the daughter of jazz trumpeter Anders Bergcrantz and classical pianist Anna-Lena Laurin. Iris Bergcrantz began her musical journey at the age of four when she sang with her mother’s choir. She made her recording debut at the age of nine. By the time she was 14, she was performing on radio and television shows while also touring internationally with the Malmö Opera Orchestra, performing one of her own compositions. In 2013, she co-founded vocal folk quartet Åkervinda, who released their debut album, Kära Mor, a year later. Iris Bergcrantz released her debut solo album, Different Universe, in 2015. The album featured assistance from her mother and father as well as her sister Rebecca Bergcrantz. Drummer Victor Lewis, who played with Stan Getz, appeared on the album and subsequently played live dates with to promote the album. Different Universe earned Iris Bergcrantz rave reviews and plenty of jazz awards including the Vocal Album of the Year (2016) at the 38th Annual Jazz Station Awards. She released her second solo album, the critically acclaimed Young Dreams, in January 2020.
