I Was Totally Destroying It is a powerpop band from Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Formed in 2007, the group included John Booker on vocals and guitar, and James Hepler on drums, Rachel Hirsh on keyboards and vocals, Justin Staple on bass, and Curtis Armstead on guitar. The band's first full-length album, I Was Totally Destroying It, was self-released in 2007. Their subsequent albums include Horror Vacui (2009), Preludes (2011), and Vexations (2012). The band toured extensively, performing with artists such as Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band. They were recognized by the News and Observer's Great 8 of 2008 and made the Onion AV Club's list of memorable band names in the same year.
