Hot Potato was formed in 1997 in the Republic of Korea by Kim C and Ko Bum Jun, both musicians who had been active in the indie scene before establishing the duo. After refining their sound in local cafés and small venues, the group released their debut album NAVI in 2000, marking their entry into the national market. Over the next decade, Hot Potato released a series of studio albums, including New Turn (2003), The Journey Of Cultivating A Potato Field (2008), Who Doesn't Like Sweet Things (2012), and Liquor Storage (2019), each showcasing a blend of rock instrumentation and electronic elements. Notable tracks such as "Gravitational Woman" from their 2018 EP and "Liquor Storage" from the 2019 album received significant radio play and contributed to the duoâs growing popularity. The band earned several accolades, including the Best Band Performance at the 12th Mnet Asian Music Awards in 2010, a Special Award in the Alternative category at the 2nd Melon Music Awards the same year, and the Song of the Year award at the 8th Korean Music Awards in 2011. The track "Propose" from the full album Seesaw, released in March 2020, entered Melon's Top 100 K-indie songs MelOn chart at rank 87 on the week of February 9, 2026.
