Biography

Hong Soo Chul (홍수철), born January 17 1957 in Seoul, South Korea, emerged as a Korean trot singer in the late 1970s. After training in vocal performance, he debuted in 1977 with the EP 머물게해주/어떤날둘이는, which introduced his melodic style to the Korean pop scene. He followed up in 1978 with 등대불이 왜 켜있는지 아세요, solidifying his presence. In 1985 he released 철없던 사랑 / 바람부는 날엔, a collection that showcased his evolving sound, and in 1989 he issued the self‑titled album '89 홍수철. Throughout his career, Hong Soo Chul remained a steady figure in Korean pop, contributing memorable pop ballads and maintaining a loyal fan base until his retirement in January 1995.
