Kim Hak Rae (born 12â¯Augustâ¯1957 in Seoul, Southâ¯Korea) is a South Korean singer who entered the music scene while studying at Myongji University. In 1979, he won the MBC University Song Festival main prize with the track "ë´ê°", which launched his professional career the following year. His debut studio album, Kim Hak Rae (5â¯Mayâ¯1986), followed, though his first solo releases began earlier with EPs such as "ê¿ìì ìë²½ê¹ì§" (1â¯Mayâ¯1985) and "ë´ê°" (30â¯Decâ¯1979). Over the next decade he issued a series of fullâlength albums, including Kim Hak Rae (1983), Kim Hak Raeâ¯2 (1984), Kim Hak Raeâ¯3 (1985), Kim Hak Raeâ¯4 (1986), Kim Hak Raeâ¯5 (1987), and Kim Hak Raeâ¯6 (1988). Songs like "íëì´ì¬", "ì¬íì ì¬ë¡", "ê²¨ì¸ ë°ë¤", and "ì¬ëíë©´ ìëë" became hits, with "íëì´ì¬" earning a KBS Top Ten Golden Cup after six consecutive weeks at number one. In 2015, Kim Hak Rae released the compilation New & Golden, which included new tracks "ì¬ëì´ë ê·¸ë°ê±°ì¼" and "ì¼ì´ë ì¬ë ë³´ì´" alongside remastered classics. His career has been decorated with multiple KBS Song Awards for Best Singer from 1983 through 1988, a KBS Retro Hit in 2019, and recognition for songwriting and album design. Kim Hak Rae remains an influential figure in Korean pop music.
