Biography

Angst was an American punk rock band from San Francisco, California. Formed in 1980 by brothers Joseph Pope and Jon E. Risk, along with drummer Michael Hursey, Angst played their first show in mid-1981. The band's debut release was the seven-song EP Angst on Happy Squid Records in 1983. They later signed with SST Records and, in 1985, released their first full-length album, Lite Life, which received critical acclaim for its politically informed tunes. Over the next four years, Angst toured extensively across America and Europe, releasing albums such as Mending Wall (1986), Mystery Spot (1987), and Cry For Happy (1988). Although they toured widely, their mix of punk, country, and pop failed to attract a strong audience in their hometown. The band broke up after their final European tour in early 1989.
