Biography

Heaven Shall Burn is a German metalcore / melodic death metal band formed in 1995 in Saalfeld, Thuringia. Formed by guitarist Maik Weichert with his counterpart Michael Hartmann and drummer Matthias Voigt, the band underwent a number of changes before recording its debut album Asunder (1998), with singer Marcus Bischoff and his brother Eric Bischoff on bass, while Hartmann was replaced by Patrick Schleitzer on guitar. After a debut album that laid the foundations of their style, blending post-hardcore, metal and death metal influences, Heaven Shall Burn followed up with Whatever It May Take (2002), then signed with Century Media for the follow-up Antigone (2004). In 2006, their successor Deaf to Our Prayers was the first album to reach number 22 in the German charts, followed by Iconoclast (Part 1: The Final Resistance) (2008), which reached number 21. Since then, through touring and energetic performances, Heaven Shall Burn has forged a place for itself among the international benchmarks of melodic death metal with the successful albums Invictus (Iconoclast III) (#9 in 2008), Veto (#2 in 2013) and Wanderer (#3 in 2016). In 2020, the band achieved national acclaim with Of Truth and Sacrifice, a double album ranked No. 1 in Germany, No. 4 in Austria and No. 6 in Switzerland. Heimat follows five years later.
