Shadows Fall, an American metal band from Springfield, Massachusetts, was formed in 1995 by guitarists Jonathan Donais and Matt Bachand. Their debut album, Somber Eyes to the Sky, was released in 1997 through Lifeless Records. In 1998, Philip Labonte left the band and was replaced by Brian Fair. The band signed with Century Media Records and released their second album, Of One Blood, in 2000. Subsequent albums included The Art of Balance (2002) and The War Within (2004), which entered the Billboard Two Hundred at Number 20 and was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance in 2006. Shadows Fall's music evolved from melodic death metal to metalcore with thrash metal elements. Their activities have been on hold since 2015.
