The Heads, formed in Bristol in 1990, comprised Paul Allen (vocals/guitar), H.â¯O. Morgan (bass), Wayne Maskell (drums), and Simon Price (vocals/guitar). The group emerged from the remnants of local acts Quinton and The Spasmodics, and early performances drew influence from Loop, Spacemenâ¯3 and The Stooges. Their breakthrough came with the 1994 release of The QUAD EP, a collectorâs item noted for its Russâ¯Meyerâinspired sleeve and included cigarette papers. In 1995 the band issued Relaxing With⦠on Headhunter Records, followed by The Time Is Now in 1998 on Mans Ruin Records. Signing with Sweetâ¯Nothing Records in 2000 yielded the debut studio album Everybody Knows We Got Nowhere. Subsequent releases included Undersided (2002), At Last (2003), and Under The Stress of a Headlong Dive (2005) across labels such as Rocket, Rooster and Invada. The Heads maintained a cult following through limited pressings and frequent Peel Sessions (1995â2000). Their discography expanded with Bedlam (2008) and the Time in Space series (2008â2010), while live recordings such as Live at the Koko (2010) documented their touring activity. Although the group did not achieve mainstream chart success, they cultivated a dedicated niche market, with collectors often paying substantially above the original price for rare editions. The band continued to release material until the early 2010s, after which their activity ceased.
