Biography
HARLECKINZ, an English-speaking hip-hop group from Berlin, Germany, was formed in 1991 by Markus Oergel (Big Sal), Jan Zech (Doubleface), Boogieman (later Mr. Knight), and DJ Jester. The group initially attempted to establish themselves in the United States, performing as an opening act for various American groups and receiving positive reviews. However, they were unable to secure a record deal and instead released their first EP, From the Levels Below, independently in 1995. This five-track EP marked their debut in the German market. In 1998, HARLECKINZ signed with Superior Records/WEA Records and released two notable singles: "What Time Is It?" and "Berlin Love", both of which charted in the German Single Top 40. Their debut album, Now We're Talkin', was released in August 2000, however, the group's activities slowed down after the release of the Kinzmen Clikk (KMC) album Kinzdom Come in 2002. Founding member Markus Oergel, known as Big Sal, pursued solo projects under the label Shok Muzik. Tragically, Big Sal passed away on June 15, 2011, at the age of 35 due to bone cancer.
