Biography
The American country singer Hannah Ellis was raised in Campbellsville, Kentucky, where she was born on August 14, 1990. After graduating from the University of Kentucky in 2012, she relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, to launch the songwriting career that would soon find her penning tunes for artists like Danielle Bradbery, Carly Pearce, and for KING & COUNTRY. Ellis began performing, too, earning a spot on the eighth season of the televised singing competition The Voice in 2015 and, following her time on the show, signing a publishing deal with Word Music. She released "Officer Down" in 2016, dedicating the song to a relative who passed away while serving as an active policeman. Another original song, "You Were Never Gone," appeared on the Teen Wolf soundtrack in 2017, and she released the self-titled debut EP Hannah Ellis that October. Ellis continued releasing standalone singles throughout the late 2010s, with highlights including the holiday song "Mary, Did You Know?" (2018) and the Nick Wayne duet "If The World Was Ending" (2019). Despite her success as a songwriter for other artists, Hannah Ellis didn't reach the Billboard charts with her solo material until 2022's "Country Can." Released that summer, the song climbed to number 55 on the Top 60 Radio Country Songs chart in early 2023. Several months later, "Wine Country" reached the same peak, hitting number 55 on Top 60 Radio Country Songs in September 2023. "Wine Country" also appeared on Ellis' debut album, That Girl, which was released early the following year.
