Guv'ner was an American alternative rock band from New York City, formed in 1993 by Charles Gansa and Pumpkin Wentzel. The duo's breakthrough came when Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth discovered them through a demo given to him by Julia Cafritz of Pussy Galore. Their debut album Hard for Measy for You was released on Ecstatic Peace, Moore's label. Following this, Guv'ner signed with Merge Records and released their subsequent albums, The Hunt in 1996 and Spectral Worship in 1998. The band's lineup included drummer Danny Tunick, who joined after the debut album; drumming duties on Hard for Measy for You were shared by Brian Logan and Jamie Lawrence. The band was active until 1999.
